About us
An independent Sudanese online newspaper, run by a Sudanese editorial team
Our mission
SUDAN TRUTH is an independent Sudanese online newspaper. We started because readers in Sudan and in the diaspora need news that arrives with its source attached: war, displacement and economic news circulates across platforms and pages with no checking at all, and the accurate story gets lost in the noise. So our first rule, from day one: no story without a source, and every item carries its own source box — the publishing body's name and date — so the reader can see where the news came from and judge for themselves.
Our sources
We follow a fixed order in what we carry, and we state it here so readers know how we choose: we start with the national wire (SUNA — Sudan News Agency) and official statements from state institutions in their fields (health, education, weather through the Sudan Meteorological Authority, and currency rates through the Central Bank of Sudan); then the global wires for breaking and field news (Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse); then established independent Sudanese outlets for the local story and state-level detail. And we do not publish a sensitive story — casualties, a major security incident, or an economic figure that moves people's lives — on a single source, however trusted it looks: two independent sources, or we wait.
Our methodology
We work by the tested rules of professional newsrooms: verify before publishing, not after; keep news and opinion apart with a clear badge; and if we get something wrong, correct it openly in the corrections log, inside the item itself, never by silent deletion. In drafting these rules we drew on well-known editorial guidance in the profession — among it the Trust Project's indicators and the Reuters Handbook — but our working test, every day, is what the reader can see in each item: a declared source, a declared publication time, and a documented correction if one is needed.
