Tuesday, September 22, 2026 • The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees revealed in a new report issued on September 18 that more than 11.4 million people had been displaced by the war in Sudan as of July 6, 2026, including more than 4.5 million who fled outside the country, and that about 60% of Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers are hosted by seven neighbouring countries, led by Chad, Egypt, Libya and South Sudan, noting that movement towards Europe is linked mainly to unmet protection and basic needs in first countries of asylum, and calling on countries to keep access to their territories, asylum procedures and the principle of non-refoulement.
