- New data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed that 11% of those crossing into Sudan from neighboring countries intend to leave it again within three months — more than double the rate recorded in October 2025 (5%) — and the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) registered 1,110,605 people crossing into Sudan from Egypt, Chad, Ethiopia, and Eritrea between January 2024 and August 2026, of whom 68% intend to return to their original areas and 21% to move to other areas inside Sudan. On the Egypt corridor — the largest with 769,602 crossers (81% of flows) — return looked more stable: 82% intend to return to their areas and 73% cited improved security as the reason, while the Chad corridor (181,038 crossers between August 2025 and August 2026) showed circular movement: 37% intend to leave Sudan again (most toward the Central African Republic and Chad) and 49% cited trade opportunities as the reason, while on the Ethiopia corridor (2,719 crossers), 44% intend to leave again — and the report concluded that "crossing into Sudan represents a step within a broader mobility strategy and is not necessarily the end of displacement" (Source: IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) via Kenya's People Daily – October 3, 2026)
- The European Union announced the allocation of 11 million euros to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support the long-term recovery of communities affected by the Sudan crisis in South Sudan, where more than 1.1 million people have fled since April 2023. The "Strengthening Community Resilience and Self-Reliance" program targets about 40,000 people — including Sudanese refugees, South Sudanese returnees, internally displaced persons, and host communities — in Upper Nile state and the capital Juba, focusing on economic opportunities, health care, education, and social cohesion with special attention to youth and women, and the program runs until the end of 2026 (Source: UNHCR press release)
